To whom it may concern
My name is Mihaela Griga and I work for Policy Center for Roma and Minorities, a think tank foundation that focuses on Roma and other vulnerable groups in Romania. A lot of our financial and human resources are currently directed to intervention in ghetto areas in Bucharest (for more details please visit www.policycenter.eu). As well known, one of the problems in these areas is a high level of domestic violence.
I write this email to inform you about a partnership we are building for the development of a transnational inntitiative.
The initiative is about developing and implementing intervention methodologies or instruments in order to increase the capacity of ghetto / poor area dwellers to find non-agresive responses to challenging situations. There are 18 months since we started working in Ferentari ghetto (Bucharest). We discovered a lot of children that are subject to violence in their own families. We developed here an Alternative Education Club and addressing this topic is extremely important in our attempt to improve children’s education and attitudes.
We have already contacted the local police station and they are willing to address this phenomenon and to be part of the project. We just have to find together the proper way to address this problem.
As we know you have a good experience and expertise on this, we would like to involve you in this project.
We will send you in the following days the draft concept note for the project. We hope you will find it interesting and challenging.
At the moment we would just like to know, in principle, whether you will be willing to invest your time and expertise in a project we are developing in Romania. The fund we will access for this is DAPHNE (http://ec.europa.eu/justice/newsroom/grants/daphne_call_for_proposals_action_grants_2011_2012_en.htm).
With my best regards,
