Gli zingari rubano i bambini Anche in questo caso, basta un minimo confronto con dati e statistiche per cancellare ogni dubbio al riguardo. Coraggio, un po’ di fatica e potete archiviare i dati pronti per affrontare la prossima notizia dello“zingaro rapitore” con la giusta preparazione. Perché i dati, fatti concreti, ci sono eccome. Basta cercarli. Da dove cominciare? Dall’archivio di Peacelink, in cui compare un’inchiesta della Reuters di un paio d’anni fa. Basta un’occhiata all’ottimo sito della polizia sui minori scomparsi, dice la Reuters, per riscontrare, anche oggi, che la casistica di bimbi rapiti da nomadi semplicemente non esiste. Ci sono bambini sfruttati dai nomadi per l’accattonaggio, a volte non loro, figli di famiglie disgraziate dell’Est che glieli “affidano” perché sono redditizi. Brutta roba, proprio come facevano molte famiglie povere italiane nell’Ottocento, come ricorda il bravo Gian Antonio Stella nel suo L’Orda, un classico imperdibile su quando gli emigrati brutti, sporchi e cattivi eravamo noi italiani. Magari non conta essere buoni o cattivi, semplicemente su bambini italiani rapiti dagli zingari non ci sono casistiche. E se chi è chiamato ad accertare la verità, mette in discussione il pregiudizio assai diffuso, accertando come accaduto in precedenti a Lecco e Firenze che le zingare semmai hanno tentato uno scippo, frainteso da mamme terrorizzate? Ecco forze politiche indignate, pronte a tuonare contro i magistrati, invocando una giustizia ispirata al “comune sentire della gente”. Da dove viene, questo “comune sentire” a proposito degli zingari rapitori e di mille episodi raccontati, lo si scopre facilmente su siti benemeriti che raccolgono le leggende metropolitane, come questo o questo, la cui consultazione renderei personalmente obbligatoria a tanti colleghi faciloni. Perché oramai la diffusione di miti e leggende viaggia di pari passo con quella delle notizie, ha forme e ragioni razionali ed irrazionali precise. Dà corpo e sfogo ad una paura inconscia, per il diverso, per la vulnerabilità dei più deboli. Leggenda molto diffusa in Italia, dove trova terreno fertile in una certa mentalità razzista e xenofoba difficile da estirpare.
